As Thanksgiving approaches, Charlotte is buzzing with excitement. Whether you're looking to start your holiday season with a fun family tradition, burn some pre-feast calories, or enjoy festive parades, the Queen City has plenty of activities to keep you entertained. Here’s a roundup of some of the top Thanksgiving events happening in Charlotte this year!

Turkey Trots & Parades

Charlotte Turkey Trot 2024
Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024 | 8:00 AM | SouthPark Mall
One of Charlotte’s most beloved traditions, the Charlotte Turkey Trot, returns for its 36th year. This 8K race brings thousands of runners and walkers to the SouthPark area to kick off Thanksgiving Day on a healthy note. The event also includes a 5K, a fun run for kids, and even a virtual option for those who can’t make it in person. Whether you're running for a new personal best or just to enjoy the atmosphere, this is a Thanksgiving staple you won’t want to miss!

Lake Norman Turkey Trot
Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2024 | 8:00 AM | Jetton Park, Cornelius
Just a short drive from Charlotte, the Lake Norman Turkey Trot offers beautiful lake views and a variety of race options. Participants can choose from a half marathon, 10K, or 5K. This scenic course provides a more tranquil experience compared to the hustle and bustle of Uptown Charlotte, making it a great option for those who want a more peaceful way to start their holiday.

Bright Lights 5K & 1-Mile Fun Run
Thanksgiving Eve, November 27, 2024 | 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM | Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, Belmont
For a more serene turkey trot, visit Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden for their inaugural Bright Lights 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. Scheduled for Thanksgiving Eve instead of Thanksgiving Day, you'll run through the beautiful lights display at the Garden on Thanksgiving Eve and then you can take it easy the next day!

Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade
Thanksgiving Eve, November 27, 2024 | 9:00 AM | Uptown Charlotte
One of the largest and oldest Thanksgiving Day parades in the Southeast, the Novant Health Thanksgiving Eve Parade is a must-see event. Starting at 9:00 AM, the parade features elaborate floats, local marching bands, giant character balloons, and, of course, an appearance from Santa Claus himself! Families line the streets of Uptown Charlotte to watch this spectacular display of holiday spirit. If you can’t attend in person, the parade will also be broadcast live on television.
